p.s. I did cry as I was writing one of the final scenes. Big 'ol sop!

Congratulations!
I bet you feel bereft now, though.

Now put it to one side for a month and begin writing another...

That is fantastic news. Well done!! I am so impressed...

That's a very good sign if one of your final scenes made you cry - remember the old maxim 'no tears in the writer, no tears in the reader'. Well done and good luck with the next stage.

Thanks so much everyone! :o)

Leather - that's the plan. Not so much as a peek at it for a least the next three weeks and then I'll start editing! Write another one? Already? But I'm knackered! Seriously though, am going to start noting down ideas for the next one. Do feel a bit bereft today I have to say.

B.E. - The champagne was perfect. It tasted even better knowing why I was drinking it.

Emily - thank you!

Jen - I am so, so thrilled. Also ever so slightly shocked!

Helen - thank you!

ChrisH - Oh, well in that case I wish I'd cried more! Thanks for the good luck for the next stage. I've got a huge pile of 'editing' books to read now!

Dot - thanks. Slightly worse for wear but in a good way!

Fantastic news - well done - that is really brillant to hear - it really boosts you when you know you can go the distance doesn't it!!!!!! We'll be editing our first novels at the same time so look forward to hearing how you are doing after you've had a bresk from it!

Many many congratulations, it is a wonderful feeling, though as you say, also one that makes you feel a bit lost.

I've found the best cure, for me at least, is to crack on with something new as you're planning to. It can be such fun after being with one set of characters for ages to begin to get to know some new ones...

NoviceNovelist - I know what you mean. This novel was a big test for me - could I actually finish a novel? Oh yes! It's great that we'll both start editing at the same time. We'll be able to share tips and gripes! Have you bought any books on editing? I've got "Make Your Words Work" and "Self-Editing for Fiction Writers". I've already read the former and highly recommend it (a tad pricey though) and will let you know what I think of the latter when I've finished reading it.

Kate - thanks so much for the congrats. You're right, I do feel a bit lost. The characters from the novel are so firmly embedded in my head it's going to be hard to let go of them...but let go I must. I've got a spark of an idea for novel #2 but need to do some serious brainstorming/scribbling/mind-mapping first!
